Hello, I'm Miles, VK6MAB, living in Perth, Western Australia. If you are looking at my page because we just had a QSO; thanks so much for the contact!
Check out this Google map of contacts, updated in real time.
I've worked portable as VK6MAB/W2, VK6MAB/YB9, VK6MAB/VK5, VK6MAB/VK3 and been on the receiving end of pileups as VK100WIA (Sep 2010), VI6CHOGM (Nov 2011), VI6VIP (Oct 2012), VI6AHR30 (Jan 2013) and VI6WA100 (Dec 2013).
My main station currently consists of an ICOM IC-7000, and two antennas; a TH3 Junior tri-band 3 ele yagi, and a multi-band (40/20/15/10m bands) vertical, as shown in the photo to the right. I also have a Yaesu FT-90, a 'Slim Jim' antenna, a few handhelds, arrow antenna (for Satellite work) and solar panels as well as Buddipole system for portable work.
My interest in radio started when I was 10 or 11 years old, with SWL, soon moving to 11 metre DX as a teenager. I left the hobby later in teenage years, and got back into it after a 25 year break. I earned my Foundation licence in September 2010 (My call was VK6FMAB), then upgraded to a standard license in May 2011.
I'm a member of the Scout Member Amateur Radio Team (VK6SH), and member of Hills Amateur Radio Group. Previously, I was on the VK6 Newswest broadcast team for the weekly VK6 call area news each week.
QSL Information: I enjoy exchanging QSL cards - I prefer real cards sent direct or via Bureau (US$2 helps cover the $3 postage plus SAE). I will always 100% respond to QSL cards. I typically send cards for all contacts outside VK to the bureau once every 6 months, unless I receive directly. If you've received my card, please send one back - it helps with awards and is a nice momento of our QSO. My kids love collecting stamps too!
As well as spending time chasing DX and having QSO's, I am also a father of three children.
Hope to hear you on the air! 73's!
