Click for more detail... W0SAA is the call for the Schaeffer academy amateur radio club, the school station for Schaeffer Academy. Schaeffer Academy is a classic Christian school in Rochester, MN known for its rigorous academic standards and its emphasis on the Trivium (Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric). The students study Latin for 8 years along with other languages and nearly all students complete Calculus and Physics for graduation. Amateur Radio was introduced at Schaeffer Academy as a tool to reinforce the scientific, mathematical and geographic curriculum taught. For example, the students study the sunspot cycle and propagation in 8th grade science and basic electronic physics in high school. The Rochester Amateur Radio Club and the IBM Radio club donated an Icom 718 for the school to use. K0MD and his children have donated a Hustler 5-BTV vertical and a local Rochester ham has donated a Heath SB 220 amplifier. Plans are to install a 56 foot tower and simple Yagi so the students can increase their DX contacts. All of the school club members are encouraged to actively work DX and chase the DXCC and WAS awards. All of the student members are ARRL members. The Club Trustee is K0MD and school advisers are N0NUV, N0ADQ and W0SA. The call W0SAA was chosen in honor of W0SA who helped install the first school club antenna.
