Click for more detail... W4GZ is a second callsign of the Murray State University Amateur Radio Club (MSUARC). The other club callsign is K4MSU. More information about MSUARC may be found under that callsign. W4GZ is an "in-memorium" vanity callsign that was originally assigned to Charles King Davis SR, of Hickman Kentucky. "King" was first licensed as a teenager in 1919, and for a number of years was the oldest ham in Kentucky. He was a member of MSUARC for several years, and was the "Elmer" for a number of young hams, including the long-time Trustee and Faculty Advisor for MSUARC, KJ4W. W4GZ currently identifies the MSUARC repeater in Hamlin Kentucky, and is used from time to time for special operating events.
