First licensed as W4IJY, June 26, 1959 while living in a small town in Eastern Kentucky. My Elmers were Ernie Musgrave MD (SK), Cordell Damrom K4BGQ (SK) and Jim Hoskins W4MVU (SK) all who were instrumental in my obtaining the General Class ticket.

Most of early operations were on 75 meters from Neon, Kentucky. Later operations were from Owingsville, Kentucky on 20 meters. Beginning1966 operations were from Vero Beach, Florida until 1979 when Hurricane David blew my antennae down and my professional career became extremely busy. My license expired in 1986.

Retired in 2005 and became active again. The Vanity Call Sign Program let me get the original call back.

I have owned Collins equipment almost all my amateur career. I still have my first Collins 32V-3 and later the 75A-4. These were restored to original condition. My current station consists of Yaesu FTDX9000MP, Flex Radio 5000A and Alpha amplifier model 99 along with many accessories. The antennae consist of Steppir BigIR vertical and Steppir 4 element yagi with the 30/40 meter add-on. The 20 meter One Man Tower was improrted from Australia. I also work mobile from the motor home with an Icom 7000. The mobile antenna is a TarHeel and is raised and lower with the TarHeel Lift&Lay device.

At the behest of the XYL my shack is in a trailer on the back part of our property in the woods. Helen is very supportive when she is not in hearing range! Great gal!!

The present station consists of a Yaesu FTDX 9000MP, Flex Radio 5000A kicking an Alpha 99, antennae are SteppIR 4 Element with the 30/40elemrnt on an One Man Tower at 66 feet, BIG SteppIR vertical and G5RV dipole.

You can find me most mornings on 7.153 with the Treasure Coasters Net. I prefer rag chewing and occassionally do work some DX.

My primary operations is SSB. I am interested in digital modes.

I am became a lifetime member of the ARRL in 1978 and QCWA in 2008. I support the ARRL as a Diamond Club member and a member of the Vero Beach Amateur Radio Club and Treasure Coast Repeater Association.

PY2KW, Nelson Pala was a phys. ed. teacher at Avare' C.E.E.N.Cel. Joao Cruz High School. He eventually became the principal and was admired by parents and students. He taught me and other students the first steps of marching band, volleyball and in the art of Ham Radio.
