First licensed as WN4ENJ in 1961.Upgrading to WA4ENJ in 1962 & continuing to 1979.KI4M from 1980 to 1995. W4RJ 1996 to present. My XYL Scharlon presently holds my original call WA4ENJ & has been active since 1993.I became interested in ham radio mainly because of my neighbor Milt Underwood K4ZBX who offered to elmer me & loan me my first transmitter, a WRL Globe Scout 680a & zep antenna.A little later he even volunteered to help build my first new transmitter a Heath Apache TX1.What a beauty with chrome knobs & lots of weight too! With a name like Pounders achieving BPL (Brass Pounders League) in 1963,was a natural.Since then DXing has been my primary interest.I achieved #1 DXCC honor roll status on September 1st,1995 & have served as DXCC Field Representative as well as CAVEC Chief Examiner.

The University of Alabama is my alma mater.I met my XYL there in 1966. We have 2 jr. ops & 4 grand jr. ops. I am a retired retail manager & hardware store owner accumulating 25 years in retailing. My Xyl & I love to travel & try to combine amateur radio wherever possible. We have been fortunate enough to visit several dx operators that we have met on the air. I am a member of the Church Of Christ & have been interested in establishing amateur radio stations in christian universities.

My forte has always been antennas-I love to tinker with em!Living on a 44 acre tract of land with no antenna restrictions I've had rhombics,80 meter log periodics, beverages,v beams, bob tailed curtains, beverages, delta loops...!Lacking towers in the early days my dad solved the problem by building two 55 foot high 2x4 wood masts from the 1961 handbook with diapoles on each band.Presently I'm using a 90 foot high tower with a Hygain 155ca & M square 6m7jhv for 6 meters & a 125 foot tower with a Hygain 205ca & Mosley pro67b and Cushcraft d3w.All standing today due to the efforts of my friend Tom K4ZGB.Too much aluminum when the lightning flashes!Am presently concentrating on 80 & 160 & have just completed several 200 meter beverages ! See You down the log ! 73 & Roll Tide! Ted
