Hi! I'm W5IHS in Austin, TX. I am 66 years old as of this writing and have been a HAM since I was 12, originally licensed as WV2DKF in Ithaca, NY. Since then, I've held WD5CTQ and K5MHF. I operate a TenTec station consisting of an Argonaut V and a 526 and use a 6m/2m vertical hidden in a large tree and a Flagpole vertical for HF (I am a victim of CC&Rs!). I am primarily a QRP CW operator on the HF bands with 30m as my favorite band. My other interests are tennis and golf, camping and fly fishing, and having fun with my 2002 Chevy 4x4 pickup!

I just completed my studies at St. Mary's University in San Antonio for a Master's Degree in Theology. I also have an MBA from the University of Houston at Clear Lake(1978)and a BBA from the University of Kentucky (1975).

I spent 7 years in the US Army as a commissioned officer, being honorably discharged as an Armored Cavalry Captain, USAR in 1976. I served in the USA, Germany, Panama and Viet Nam where I was the commander of B Troop, 17th Cavalry, 173d Airborne Division based at An Khe in the Central Highlands. I was both Airborne and Ranger qualified with a special qualification in jungle operations.

I am an ordained Deacon(1998) in the Roman Catholic Church and currently work in sales. My church ministries have included a stint as Business Manager for Catholic Charities of Central Texas, Inc, and later as the President and General Manager of the Central Texas Catholic Radio Network, a network of 4 FM radio stations in Central Texas. I was succeeded by W5GI, John. My last position (not minstry) was that of being the Chief Engineer and Production Manager for KGLF-FM in Fredericksburg, Texas. I am married to Lynne and have two grown sons; Brendon, born in 1972 and Cody, born in 1974. No grandkids yet, unfotunately!

Look for me around the QRP calling frequencies at about 15 wpm.

73, Dick W5IHS, Austin, TX
