I was born in 1945 and was first licensed in 1957 as KN3DUB in Washington, DC. I moved to East Lansing, MI and became W8CQN in 1961 and later changed my call to W8FJ. I am a practicing Veterinarian in nearby Flourtown, PA treating mostly dogs and cats. I received my DVM degree from Michigan State University in 1977. My undergraduate degree is in English from the University of Michigan where I was an active contester in the 1960s at the college radio club station, W8UM. I served as a Captain in the US Army Transportation Corps where I flew helicopters and served one tour in the Vietnam Conflict. I have lived in Pennsylvania since 1979. I am a member of the Frankford Radio Club and also a member of FOC (FOC-1786). I continue to be an active Contester and DXer. I spend 99% of my time on cw and am especially fond of low-band DXing(30M thru 160M). My station consists of an Elekraft K3 & P3 Panadaptor, a Yaesu FT1000mp and Alpha 8410 Amplifier. I have a single 30 meter high Rohn 55-G tower that supports a 2-el 30M Yagi at the top (32M up), a 3-el Force 12 Magnum 340N 40M Yagi in the middle (30M up), and a Force 12 C31XR 14-el Triband Yagi on the bottom (27M up). I have an Inverted-V Dipole for 80M with its apex at 27M and an Inverted-L with 26 ground-mounted radials for 160M.
