After messing with old AM radio and shortwave radios for a few years, I became interested in listening to local activity on 160 meters. I was first licensed in 1962. Because I grew up listening to 160, I've always enjoyed 160 meters. I have been active on 160 since 1963, although I work other bands. I also fooled around with old muscle cars for a while. My proudest "car moment" was setting the national AHRA record in D/S class in 1972 with a 69 S/C Hurst Rambler. I was in the American Motors factory race program. I rebuilt all my own engines and driveline systems. Transmitting antennas Currently have four-square for 160 using 120/240 degree phase shift (more gain, better pattern) with four 1/4 wl vertical elements. I also have a 220 foot insulated tower, a 300-foot insulated Rohn 55G tower, a 315-foot Rohn 65G, a rotating 200-foot tower with monoband Yagis for 40 through two meters.
Receiving antennas My receiving arrays are mostly located about 1000-2500 feet from the transmitting arrays, although a few are closer. I currently have about 35 Beverages that include arrays of Beverages, 12 phased 20 foot tall verticals (in two arrays, one steerable with eight elements in a 330-foot circle and a four element array, 330 ft by 70 foot, fixed on Europe or switchable to South Pacific). Equipment Drake C Line receivers modified to track from one master receiver, allowing full diversity or stereo receiving on multiple antennas. Any of four receivers can be put on any antenna, and some antennas can select more than one direction at once on multiple receivers. Other equipment includes Elecraft K3, FT-1000D and FT1000MP MK V's. Last modified: 2011-01-22 00:31:44, 2064 bytes cached
