In the cockpit of Ship 9020 - My

I was licensed in 1976 as WN4PBW. My dentist (Sandy - WA4PBX) and I were both frustrated CB'rs and at the urging of our "Elmer" Cal Neff (K4JSR) at the Lafayette Radio Store in Buckhead, we took his novice class and started in this hobby.

I own a condominium in northwest Atlanta and my station is somewhat stealthy. My home is on the ground floor and an end unit. My rig is an Icom 765 and an Ameritron AL-811 amplifier with the 10M modification. Hidden up in the woods behind my building is a SteppIR Vertical with radials. In the winter, one can spot the tall straight stick if you look carefully. In the summer with the plant growth, the stick is really difficult to find. The station has been installed since 2006 and so far, no one has complained!

I'm a pilot instructor for Delta Air Lines here in Atlanta and qualified on the Boeing 737-200 and the McDonnell-Douglas MD-88/90. I also trained on the Boeing 777 but moved back to the MD-88/90 program. In addition to my pilot certificate, I have a Certified Flight Instructor certificate with Airplane/Single engine/Multi-Engine/Land and instrument instructor endorsements. As an honoree of the "Chairman's Club" at Delta, I was "given" MD-88 ship 9020 with my name emblazoned next to the door. The photograph above was shot in the cockpit of "my" plane.

While in college, I got my private pilot certificate. During my stint in the United States Air Force, I received more endorsements and let the GI Bill help me out during my enlistment and after my honorable discharge. I also paid for some of my flying lessons with photography and have professionally photographed NHL hockey, NFL football and was a personal photographer for a major US politician. My Nikon D-700 travels with me all the time.

I'm a 99% Mac user having given up on Windoze years ago. I have one PC to electronically run my home automation system and my logging program. The other computers are an iMac Retina, Macbook Pro Retina, iPad Air Retina, and iPhone. The Macs are equipped with Adobe Photoshop C2014 and the iPad with a photo editor app that I can use on the road.

I was one of the first instructors to convert to the iPad for pilot briefings and simulator useage. Gotta love the Mac. Once you buy Mac, you never go back!

10-X #15766, New South #89

I will QSL 100% with a SASE, LOTW, or Bureau (you must have one of the Southeastern DX Club shown above!!).
