I live in Cleveland, TN, just north of Chattanooga in S.E. TN. I was first licensed as WN4YYM in Athens, TN in 1965. I became WA4YYM a few months later. Eventually I upgraded to Advanced Class, where I operated until August of 2001 when I upgraded to Extra Class while attending the 2001 National Scout Jamboree.
Over the years I have continued my interest in Amateur Radio. I was the president of the University of Tennessee Amateur Radio Club while I attended the University of Tennessee from 1967-1970. I then moved to Memphis and graduated from the UT medical school in 1974. I was active on both HF and VHF while in Memphis. I left Memphis in 1977 after completing my residency in internal medicine. I moved to my present home in Cleveland and have practiced medicine here since then.
I met my wife through a fellow ham, WA4TEM, who happened to be her brother. He invited me over to see his station when I was a freshman in college at UTK, but I was more interested in his cute sister. We have now been married for 43 years and have 4 grown children, five grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. It helps to have ham radio ties to the marriage, especially when I want to buy some new gear!
I have become a computer geek over the past 15 years and have administered several web sites.
I am interested in APRS which combines three of my interests...ham radio, computers, and GPS.
My activity is HF and VHF nowdays and I have an interest in DX chasing and public service, such as weather spotting in SKYWARN and serving in the ACS for Bradley County EMA. I have been appointed an Official Emergency Station by the ARRL. I am a member of the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club, Ocoee Amateur Radio Society and a Life Member of the ARRL.
QSL through ARRL's LOTW.
