My first call, KB5LDY, was received in 1990.  I worked HF from my office before or after ordinary duty hours with dipoles on the roof of a 10-story building.  The photograph on this webpage shows me on the vegetated roof I created 10 years ago on that roof.  I also operated portable for several years at sundry campsites. When I retired I operated using an ICOM IC-7000 with a Comet CHA-250B vertical antenna in my garden. From 1991 through 2014 I organized HAM readio communications for the Houston Marthon with over 100 HAMS and support folks on the Communication Team supporting communications for Race Officials, Pace vehicles, Water Stations, and SAG vans. We used 2m, 70cm, and APRS. I worked State QSO Parties and special event stations most weekends  I supported the Harris County(TX) ARES group weekly nets,  with public service actiivities, field exercises, and other projects.

I moved to Johnson City, TN in August 2014.  We are a day from the Outer Banks of NC and this allows N5VCZ and me to help with the OBX Marathon in November.  We have added add this annual event to our schedule.  I operate portable from a cottage in Duck, NC within 200 yards from the Atlantic for  weekly sessions 3 times a year.

In TN I have set up my verticle in the back lot of our residence and strung EFHW's from the 2nd level deck as I restart my quest for the WAS award.  I am becoming involved with two clubs and ARES groups and am begining to participate in local public service activities.
