Click for more detail... Have been a "wanna be" ham since I was about 12 years old when I discovered AM broadcast band DX-ing. I went to the library and read everything I could get my hands on about ham radio and was "all hot to trot" until I discovered that I had to take a code test and that kind of put a damper on all of it for about 40 years. Rediscovered the hobby while working as a consultant in Seattle and passed my code-less Technician license then found a code coach (Paul-NG7Z) who helped me overcome my code deficiency so I could pass my 5 WPM to get my General. Got my Extra and vanity call with in the first year I was licensed and celebrate my Ham "birthday" on Field Day because I passed my Tech exam on Field Day Saturday. Have since got my WAS & DXCC certificates and am working on my 5B-WAS.. I've been interested in digital modes (PSK31 & RTTY) using my computer sound card, a passing interest (no pun intended) in Meteor Scatter using the WSJT software, but am antenna challenged (CC&R) where I live and so have just begun assembling a VHF/UHF Rover station. I'm currently on 6M, 2M, 1.25M, 70 cm, 33cm & 23cm from the car. I did have a 4 band set of loops in my attic but got tired of the TVI complaints from my neighbor so I've removed them for the time being. I'm planning to put up a temporary mast and mount the loops outside which I hope will work better and not generate the TVI issues that the attic mounted antenna setup did. I'm a casual contester and I like to chase DX & Special Event Stations for fun. I also belong to several clubs including Potomac Valley Radio Club. Next things I'll be looking into are EME and a 160M Boat Anchor AM station. I'm also working on improving my CW proficiency and have been making more CW Qso's. 13DEC2008 Rev Last modified: Sat Dec 13 19:57:59 2008 Does this page contain inappropriate content?
