Click for more detail... Hello Friends, Greetings from Guam, where America's day begins. We've been out here since July 2006, living and working in the westernmost United States. WH2D is the club station at St. John's School, an Episcopal international independent school located in lovely Tumon, Guam. Our school is perched on the cliff in Upper Tumon with a magnificant vista of the beach and hotels some 350' below. I have three high school students who work with me in the club and are studying for their licenses. So far, we have refurbished a former storage room and turned it into our shack and clubroom, we have installed a new aircon unit, set up one HF radio, and erected the Cushcraft R-7000. There's much more yet to do, especially with antennas, VHF, linears, and emergency power hookup. All in good time. Anyway, we're all having a great time out here, especially running low power only, thus far. There's little need for QRO, even in the contests. Yes, WH2D gets out -- like gangbusters. The only place I have ever operated from that rivals this location was Aves Island in 1992. Our location here in Guam on the western side of the island puts us firmly into JA and mainland Asia; stateside USA is always a pleasure to work, and EU is equally a thrill. I do QSX for EU and USA when conditions open up. My operation, as per usual, is 90% CW, the bigger the pileups, the better. I make it a rule to always work simplex, never split frequency (haven't lost a pileup yet) and I would be very happy to confirm our contact(s), hopefully on more than one band. Send your QSL via K3UOC or WH2D -- the address is the same here in Guam. The Bureau works for me as well. But if you need that confirmation hasta pronto, direct is the way to go. So, if we haven't worked yet, we'll keep our fingers crossed for a QSO in the near future. 73, Dr. Mike Manafo, K3UOC WH2D - Trustee, St. John's School Amateur Radio Club W1AF - Trustee, Harvard Wireless Club, Harvard University Last modified: Tue Dec 9 23:02:02 2008 Does this page contain inappropriate content?
