I was first licesnsed in 1983 as G1TCI (VHF / UHF only) and then quickly became G0FKQ in 1984 having passed my CW exam at the age of 15 years old.

Iam located in the eastern suburbs of Auckland, on the North Island of New Zealand.

Current shack consists of:

  • Yaesu FT-1000 (D)
  • Yaesu SP-5 with phone patch
  • Yaesu MD-100
  • Kenwood TS-930SAT
  • Kenwood TS-520
  • Swan 350
  • Yaesu FT-101EE
  • 3 Element Hy-Gain TH3JRS Yagi (10/15/20) - 10 meters above ground.
  • Kenpro KR-400C antenna rotator
  • Homebrew 40 mtr Vertical
  • Ameritron RCS-8V Remote antenna switch

I run an Apple MacBook Pro that runs Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and for digimodes I run HRD + DM780 through a virtualised Windows environment. Runs really well and I am privileged to be able to run both Mac OS X and Windows 7 from a single machine. I use the brilliant Aether logbook for Mac.

In terms of my HF work, you will often find me operating on CW (Favourite mode) & Digimodes (Mainly PSK31, RTTY & ROS) and every now and again you will hear me on SSB.

I welcome communication and QSL cards from any SWL's out there too, so drop me an email or card and I will respond.

I QSL via LOTW, bureau or direct , so please feel free to QSL me.

I have developed the www.ft-2000.com website for users of the FT-2000 to exchange information on Mic EQ, Processing, AGC, bugs etc. please check it out!!

Here is a photo of the beautiful Kenwood TS-830s that I restored fully and really enjoyed using while it was in my possession. I will get another some day.

And my 3 Ele Yagi pointing to EU on a beautiful spring morning.
