2012 : I worked holiday style dx and /P between 2-30 Dec 2012 from various portable locations in ZS1 region - (40 - 10 CW/SSB) using a vertical or wire antennas in the field. The vertical is in the picture below - about 5 ft off the ground, with a single counterpoise.
Dec 7 - 10: 90 km N of Cape Town : Ant : Bottom loaded vertical & wire vetical on 40-10 cw/ssb
2012 : Dec 14 - 16 : 120 km N of Cape Town in the coastal village of Langebaan: 10-30m cw/ssb: Ant: Wire Vertical (supported by fibreglass pole) My setup here was on the rooftop, running IC706, 40W on battery power. If you worked me on 30m, between 0200 - 0400 Z (grayline ), I was on the rooftop, just before sunrise, under the southern skies...

2010 Dec 6,7: Atlantic coast - beach portable - 120 miles north of Cape Town.
2010 Dec 17 - 20: Mountain top portable - 100 miles north of Cape Town.
2011: Deon (ZS1D) & Roelof (ZS1XD) moutain top portable .
