PLEASE NOTE: Due to Buzz, NI5DX, taking ill with a tumor, he will no longer be acting as the QSL manager for me. For now, no paper cards will be answered by Buzz after end of December 2014. I will continue to upload monthly log extracts to Logbook of the World and if you are on LotW, you will automatically get contacts confirmed the beginning of the month following our contact.
I will see what I can do about paper cards, I will post an update here once I have something in place, for now, no paper cards please.
If you are not on LotW yet, but you obviously have internet, how else are you reading this?, why not go to the trouble and register with the ARLL for LotW, there are no costs involved for this, for DXCC credits there are costs, but they are, I believe, less than the costs involved for having your physical paper cards checked. Also you won't have to ship cards around the countryside or visit the respective card checker with your cards for DXCC purposes, if the contacts to be credited are confirmed by way of LotW anyway.
FYI the station consists of a 30m (100ft) tower next to the farmhouse, here in the Orange River Valley, the antenna at the moment is still my little HyGain Explorer 14, effectively a 3 element tribander, the radio is an ICOM with an ICOM solid state amplifier providing 400W. The terrain is pretty flat all around, so pretty terrible in all directions :-) The range of hills behing the antenna in the photgraph is around 18km or so from the antenna and the view is toward the north-east, thus toward Asia.
I have been active from here since the 2nd week of October 2008, my other call/location is ZS1Y near Cape Town, but last time I was active from down there, was end of 2008 or early 2009, I don't expect to operate from ZS1 anytime soon again, but who knows what tomorrow may bring...
