David V. Larsen died in 2014. The South African Radio League has taken over his licence to allow his beacons to continue as part of the NCDXF International Beacon Project. The beacons continue to operate at their original site by courtesy of the Larsen family and under the supervision of Frank Schneider ZS6GE.
The ZS6DN station is located on a 60 hectare portion of the Farm Doornkloof between the cities of Pretoria, Centurion and Johannesburg in the province of Gauteng. Despite its proximity to these large cities, it is "in the countryside" as the farm adjoins the Rietvlei nature reserve, with rhino, buck, zebra, lots of birds and two lakes.
More details about Dave and his station appear on the Salbu Web site.
During 2016, Dave was elected as one of the nine inaugural members of the SARL Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. His Hall of Fame profile provides a short version of his tremendous impact on amateur radio in southern Africa.
QSL requests for the period before 2014 must go to the Larsen Family, Private Bag X2352, Wingate Park, 0153 South Africa.
Correspondence regarding the beacon network must be directed to ZS6GE.
