Say hello to "DANNY" one of my three live-in burglar alarms.ABBY and DYNAMITE are bashful.
As of February 27, 2015 I was appointed ARRL Virginia Section Manager.
This appointment is very near and dear to me being a life long member of the ARRL and having been an active supporter of DXing, Contesting, and Public Service programs.
I wish to thank all those hams who have supported and continue to support me.
BRIEF, 2015 YEAR END SECTION MANAGERS REPORT
Welcome to my home, office, lab, shop, and hamshack.
I am an Life Member of IEEE,ITE, IMSA, RCA, APCO, as well as an ARRL Life Member with appointments as ARRL Virginia Section Manager, State Government Liaison, and Official Emergency Station.
I have been an amateur radio operator for over 50 years and have held ARRL Field organization positions as Official Bulletin Station, Official Observer, as well State Government Liaison and Offical Emergency Station.
The following photos provide an overview of my office, lab, and ham shack. The photos are still pretty much the same today. Working ham equipment for 5KC to 1296Mhz.--including YAESU, ICOM, ALINCO, TEN TEC, ALPHA, AMP SUPPLY, SWAN, MFJ, RACAL and other manufacturers.I have worked Satellite, SSB, FM, P25, including Digital Communications in P25, D-STAR, PACKET & APRS.
Lab equipment from HP, Tektronix, IFR, Motorola, Bird, Anritsu, Array Solutions, MFJ, Icom, Astron, Wavetek, Racal, Waters, Diamond, Fluke, Tracor, Efratom, Spectracom, Chroma, Key Tek, is some of the equipment seen here. Calibration and Certification of ham, commercial and military equipment can be done. I maintain parts, cable, antennas, and some spare equipment in storage. Lastly, I maintain a rack of Atomic and GPS frequency, time, and calibration equipment tracable to NIST standards for receivers, transceivers, transmitters and lab as well as portable test equipment. Testing of ham and commercial rf units, inverters, uninterruptible power systems, fuel cells, solar systems, battery backup, and power conditioning can also be done for scientific and medical equipment.
SMT component repairs can be done in the lab. In addition, service, site analysis, frequency coordiniation, EMC and, RFI, Spectrum Analysis lab testing and measurements are available to clubs.
I enjoy research and experimenting, working with equipment for Power Conditioning, UPS and Battery backup designs, Antenna Design & testing, RF transmitting as well as seismic and weather recording and analysis. Not seen here are my numerous ham antenna systems for VLF and 160M -1296 MHz.. In addition, a library is maintained containing many technical standards and references, electrical engineering, power and ups systems, ham and commercial equipment manuals, schematics, test equipment , etc..The library contents can be lent out to individuals or clubs upon request. Certification Standards from IEEE, FCC, ANSI, ETI, EN and MIL etc.with test procedures, ham and commercial manufacturers literature, parts references, ARRL manual libraries, all of which are available to hams, labs, etc.
Technical presentations and training materials are available for Electronics Eqpt Design & Test, Ham Radio, Power Systems, UPS and Power Conditioning equipment & Protection, Antenna Design (MIL, Commercial, & Ham), Emergency Communications Equipment and Deployment, Red Cross, Fire and EMS, and CCP.
Communications, Power Conditioning- Electronics- Generation, UPS, Military, Public Safety, EMS, Police, Fire, and Ham Radio have been my professional career, as well as a passion and hobby for me for over 50 years---K3WRY
I became interested in electronics during the Korean War. I started in ham radio by building own transmitter and buying a Hallicrafters receiver. Over the years built and bought many pieces of ham and other types of electronics equipment. Took electronics interest to school and eventual PhD. While in school and after graduation , volunteered and worked in EMS and communications and as a police officer. Communications design, including power conditioning, rotary and early UPS systems advanced into engineering, sales, service including design and development of rugged MIL and RF power systems and Mil Spec Power Systems.
Education and Experience includes--BSEE, MBA, PhD in Electronics Technology. Employment has been by Communications and Power & UPS Mil equipment manufacturers. Experience including design, product development, application engineering support, senior sales and marketing and senior executive management positions. Visited and worked on many Military bases and field operations, EMS and Communications facilities and sites including, ships, aircraft, ground installations and theater sites, etc. around the world. Worked with FBI, NSA, CIA and US State Department and many other US and Foreign Government Agencies . Enjoy building projects as well as doing research and design for ham equipment as well as some specialized MIL applications on EMC, EMI, and EMP projects.
Interests include ---Amateur Satellites, Award Hunting, Building Antennas, Building Equipment, Contests, Continuing Education Training. Training Courses for EMS/EMT and Emergency Communications,, Hamfests , DXing, ARES/RACES, Field Day, Mobile & Portable Operating Digital Communications, D-Star, NAVY MARS, Training of FEMA and CERT courses in numerous subjects of Public Service and Community Safety, Repeater Operation & Maintaince, Message & Traffic Handling, Vintage Equipment (Restoring Operating), Weak Signal (VHF/UHF/Microwave).
A BUSY MIND IS A HEALTHY MIND----BEING AN ELMER IS A PRIVILEGE------EDUCATION IS A PRIVILEDGE------------------
