Hello and thanks for the looking me up. My mom named me William but I go by Bill or Hey You! I am originally from the far Southside of Chicago near the lake front.
After my hitch in the U.S.Air Force, back in the 60's,I moved to southern Calif.for about a year then up to Portland,Oregon where I lived for almost 11 years.
On the morning of May 18,1980 I was near Cougar Washington, which is on the southwest flank of Mount Saint Helen, when she erupted. Lucky for me the eruption was on the northern flank or I wouldn't be here now telling you this. In August of '80 I moved to Chattanooga,TN to be closer to my mom after my step dad passed away.(That's the short version)
I am retired from the music business, where I worked for 30 years as a roadie and sound engineer. I am also an ASA Certified Master Mechanic.
My QTH is now approx. 15 miles northeast of downtown Chattanooga,TN. I'm located on top of a 200 foot hill (908 ft. ASL) overlooking and about a mile from Harrison Bay on Lake Chickamauga.
I run nothing but Yaesu radios with a couple exceptions, for AM,a boatanchor Johnson Valiant Transmitter coupled with a NCL NC 173 reciever. As of now my main rig is a FT 950 with a CAD e300s studio mic. My newest rig and rarest one is a cherry FT 101 "F". For 2 meters a Yaesu FT 2800M.
For antennas I have a number of double bazookas running thru the trees,a GAP Titan DX,a homemade from recycled parts PDL2 tuned for 10 m,and a pre-MFJ Cushcraft MA5B. For six meter,a Comet CA-52HB4 and for 2 meter/70 cm a Cubix Cubical Quad. For a linear I have a fully restored Yaesu FL-2100B using NOS Cetron tubes! My favorite bands are 40m,20m,17,10m and on some evenings I've been found on 60m working the British Isles.I run SSB,PSK-31 and some SSTV. You can also find me on Echo Link Node 338031.
My other favorite past time is rebuilding and riding OLD(pre Evo)Harley Davidsons. The bike in the photo at the top of the page and on my QSL card is a 1960 Panhead FLH that I restored. For those who don't know,FLH is the factory designation for a 74 cu.in.(1340cc) high compression motor. And that is where my vanity call sign originates.
My other interests include fine dining, good wine, cruising the lake on the Bloody Merry IV,our 40 year old 40 ft.houseboat, and of course the grandkids.
If you wish to contact me please use the note feature at the top of this page or email me at the address also at the top of this page.
