My name is George KC7HKP, i am 51 years old. I got into ham radio because of a friend of mine Duane N7QDN. My wife had died of cancer and i had 2 small children. so i was looking for some thing to do while i was taking care of my kids and be able to stay home and be with them. I had also listen to shortwave as a kid. So i got my ham license in Dec of 1994.

Boy i sure have a lot of fun learning a lot of time meeting new people just about every day of the year. Everyone i come into contact with has been so helpful.there is a lot of information out there. from books, magazine, fellow hams and the web. Its a never ending learning experience. God has choosen to give me a few medical problems as long as i have my medication i am able to function.I sure never thoght it be here now. But there are a lot of people around to give me a hand as needed.

I love to work 6m and above in weak siganl. Its a big chalange to hear someone and beable to work them. To see how far your able to work and its not easy. 24 hour a day you have to have your radios on because you never know just when it right to get the skip needed. There is a lot of gear needed to work all the bands available and the long beams needed to hear those weak signals.

Its a never ending array of info and knowledge needed to keep up with the new technology. I am really thankful for getting my license. My kids and family think i am crasy for the effort put forth. But i am very happy and the drive keeps me going. A few years ago i thought that my time was near ending but i was given a nother chance at live and i want to make sure its not wasted.

I have started collecting radio's books, magazine, spare parts, test equipment, and trying to teach my self how to restore and build radios and there accesory. I sure wish i had a few elmers living next door so i could bug them with all my questions. like just how does that thing there work, what makes it tick !.I also am involved with ARES and my local radio club.Any how just what to say thanks to everyone for there help. George
