First licensed as WN7FZE in 1955 in Idaho. Discovered girls in 1956. Put ham radio on hold untill 1977. Have been active ever since, WD6BTC in California, KA7BRW in Idaho, Colorado, and back to Idaho, KF7CQ in Idaho since 1988. I am trying to explore every facet of Amateur Radio. Consequently I have yet to get WAS on HF. I am probably closer to WAS on 6 meters. My first station was a Heathkit DX-20 transmitter and a Halicrafters SX-25 receiver. The antenna was a 40 meter folded dipole. I soldered a PL259 onto the end of the 300 ohm twin lead and began operating. SWR was not in my vocabulary then. My best DX was New York. My hardware now allows me to operate from 160 meters to 2.4 Ghz, excluding 220 Mhz and 903 Mhz. Yaesu FT-847, primary radio, 160 to 440. Icom IC-229a, local 2m on the side. Down East Transverter, for 1296. Yaesu VL-1000 amp for 160 to 6m. Commander II amp for 2m. TE Systems 200 watt amp for 432 Mhz 2.4 Ghz down converter, receive only. Antennas: Dipoles for 160, 80, 40, 30 meters. Steppir 3 element yagi for 20 meters to 6 meters. 2 phased m2, 18 element yagis for 2 meters. 2 phased K1FO design, 25 element yagis for 432 Mhz. 1 each 55 element loop yagi for 1296 Mhz. 1 each M2, 14 element crossed yagi for 2 meter satellite use. 2 phased "bar-b-que grill" type dishes for 2.4 Ghz. For the antennas that need rotating I have a M2, Orion 2800, and the Yaesu G-5500 az/el rotor. Computer stuff: Dell XPS-400 desktop. Compac Presario desktop. Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. US Interface Navigator radio to computer interface unit./ I retired December 2008, so I am just about to finish my 20 year old honey-do list. I may get my WAS yet!
