AF-099 White Rock (Norus island) was added as a qualifying island for the Matruh Region group in the IOTA Directory on the 30th of August, 2005. The issue of AF-099 to the White Rock (Norus island) was confirmed as the first IOTA operation from an Egyptian island. Special thanks to Roger Balister, G3KMA the RSGB IOTA Manager and the IOTA management for the efforts they exerted in the course of verifying this activity.

Thanks for all who contacted or tried to contact SU8IOTA during the dx-pedition. We faced a lot of difficulties to put this call on the air. Nearly 2000 QSOs have been made with stations in five continents: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. With the experience gained from this dx-pedition, we hope to be able to prepare a full scale dx-pedition soon from the same place. We are going to keep you informed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

First ever IOTA dx-pedition from an Egyptian Island. Location: Norus island (AF-NEW) in the Mediterranean sea. Activation date: July 31st to August 9th, 2005 . DX-pedition members: Hossam El Shenawy (SU1HM) - Said Kamel (SU1SK) - Tarek Abdulla (SU2TA) - Sayed Abdel Samei(SU1SA).
