My station operates from Ottapalam, in the middle of Kerala State (also known as God's Own Country) in South India.

My other callsigns are AK4EC (USA) and A92GK ( Bahrain). As of now I am the only ARRL VE from my state.

The antenna setup has a 5 Band home brewed HEX Beam , a W-8010 5 bander trap dipole, a 7 and 5 element stacked vhf beams and a dual band whip from Diamond. The picture on the right used to be my antenna setup at Bangalore.

5 Band HEX beam - Homebrewed.

Some of my friends I had met for an eyeball these years were S51GL - Miro at Dubai in 2002 , 5A1HA - Haytem , DL1BDF - Mustapha, DK7EQ - Wilfried at Tripoli ( for assisting the 5A7A Dxpedition team), SV1BJW - Vassilis, SV1ATS - Stefanos and Yiannis - SV1EEZ at Athens and 9K2AI -Ahmed at Manama.

Sat Moxon Antenna's for working the Oscars ( satellites ) like VO-52 and AO-51.

My shacks landmark is a 200 feet tower from the state owned telecom company - BSNL.

Ottapalam has a history of Ham Radio operators. Some of the first ham radio operators in this state operated here. Notable amongst them were

  1. 1. VU2CMC/ WA6AUZ Dr Robert E. Hopkins(SK) who operated from the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA)Hospital quarters in the late 1970's. (referPage 18 of the Seventh Day Archives)
  2.
  1. 2. VU2NN - Dr Nirmal Raj
  2.  who operated from the SDA Hospital quarters.
  3.
  1. 3.VU2KMK - K.M Krishnan Nambudripad ( an elmer to VU2LV)
  2.
  1. 4. VU2CBM (SK)- Chembolli Balakrishna Menon - an avid CW operator who lived near the SDA Hospital.
    1. 5.VU2UCY Ambady Bhaskaran Menon (Bhasi)(SK) who also lived near the Hospital.

In a way the SDA hospital was the center for Amateur communications in the 1970's
