GREETINGS FROM THE CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST IN MINNESOTA

The town of Marcell is located on the National Scenic Byway HWY 38 in the Chippewa National Forest in Northern Minnesota. Both the town of Marcell and North Star campground are located above the Laurentian Divide so all the rivers flow North to Hudson Bay we are about 50 miles south of the Canadian Boarder. This is the 12^th season as a Volunteer for the US Forest Service. The County is Itasca.

The Minnesota Address is my FCC address and is good all year. In the Summer I host the North Star Camp Ground on HWY38 (EN37en). The shack is in the front half of my Scamp trailer. In winter I live in a Finnish-Style log cabin the was built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as the Ranger’s Home for the Marcell District it is Listed the National Register of Historic Buildings. The cabin is located on a small ridge (1451 elevation) overlooking Rainier lake (EN37do). In the winter I work as a Volunteer in the Visitors Center.

The HF setup is a Icom 703+ with a 300HTz filter we work only QRP CW on 80,40 and 15 the antenna is a 40-meter VEE. I work 10 meters and 6 meters both SSB and CW using a Yaesu FT-450AT the 10 meter antenna is a home built rotatable dipole for 6 meters I have a KMA5054 Log.

I use solar power for all QRP contacts from the campground. I have one 89 watt solar panel feeding a pair of deep discharge batteries. This system also provides enough power to run the laptop and a pair of LED strips

I have a DXCC mixed earned in 2011. A WAS Mixed, CW, and 40 Meters earned in 2009. I am actively chasing the FFMA with 336 Grids. My VUCC count is 365 grids verified on 6 and 200 on the satellites. I am an active CW contester.

I am APRS active using Kenwood TH-D7(G) and a Garmin GPS as W6GMT-9
