The WN7WLL Novice picture above was taken about September 1954. My first station was a Hallicrafters SX-71, a RME DB-23 Preselector and a homebrew xtal-controlled transmitter with a pair of 6L6's and an Amphenol folded dipole on 80 and 40.
Currently use a Yaesu FT-990 (or FT-1000) and Alpha 91b amplifier. Antennas are a 80M inverted V hung from the top of a 70 foot Hy-Gain HG-70HD crankup tower holding a Hy-Gain TH7DXX (10/15/20) at 72 feet (22 M), a Cushcraft A3WS (12/17) at 80 feet (24 M) and a 2M Technical Specialist's high-gain monopole at 82 feet (25 M). Use a Kenwood TM-241A for 2 M. Mobile 80 through 10 with Yaesu FT-900 using Hustler antennas on Toyota Sienna. We live in a wonderful ocean view 2-story home on an acre plus of flat land at the top of a 70 foot (22 M) hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the central Oregon coast (Milepost 162) in Lincoln County, 2 miles N of Yachats OR and 5 miles S of Waldport OR. We are about 1500 feet (457 M) from the ocean itself, a quick walk down the hill (safe from any potential major tsunami!!!). We have many visiting animals in the area, including deer, coyote, puma, black bear (above) and a herd of Roosevelt elk numbering up to 20+ at times. All wander out of the Siuslaw National Forest behind us (269,000 acres/108,860 hectares/4,384 sq M), a very big back yard!! Interested in OR central and north coast weather? The ham shack shown above is a Collins S1-Line, homebrew 4-1000 linear and TH7DX on 51 foot (16 M) crankup tower. Left as Director of Global Marketing's Worldwide Support Services group (consisting of the Technical Support Center, Commercial and Federal Contracts, Federal Security, Tender Management, ECommerce, Business Practices, Customer and Employee Technical Training, Export Services, Export Control, Corporate Customer Certification and Compliance, Pricing Administration and Logistics). Represented the company to various national trade organization committees, including SAMA, COMPACT, NDPA (formerly AOA), and EIA. Volunteer from 1974 through 2010 for the Department of Defense, Under Secretary of Defense, Reserve Affairs, Oregon Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization. Served as a Unit Representative, Area Chair and Employer Outreach Chair. Served as a Senior Advisor (appointed by the Secretary of Commerce) with the National Defense Executive Reserve (NDER), later assigned to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The NDER was disbanded recently. Own Technovations, consulting to small businesses interested in marketing and selling to US and foreign governments. Awarded US Patent 3,888,780 for Timelapse Photographic System. Chairman, Board of Commissioners, SW Lincoln County Water District. NOAA/NWS SKYWARN volunteer LC-3H. Other hobbies - lighthouses, lighthouse books and lighthouse memorabilia (local pharologist), stamps and coins, matchbook covers and boxes (phillumenist), rock polishing and travel.
