Matched Set: Heathkit SB 301 & SB 401 |

I have a matching set: Heathkit SB 301 receiver and SB 401 transmitter. Included are an archaic pair of headphones (I do not think they work), and 8 original coax cables (presumably for tying the two together). Both units power up, backlights function, etc. I have not tried transmitting or receiving, though.
Full disclosure: the receiver suffers from Heathkit's typical mechanical adjustment woes, such that the frequency knob does not engage the internal mechanisms (this is straightforward to fix, although it requires completely opening up the unit). The ear on the transmitter's frequency control lock dial (the dial behind the mike level) has broken off, as well--the switch can be moved, but it's a bit difficult. Also, the transmitter's switch for various bands binds - it's difficult to move, and the 'centering' for each band is weak at best. Other than that, both units appear to be in functional condition.
Cosmetically both units are a 7 out of 10. Minor scratches on the cases, some dust inside. But overall, especially for being nearly 40 years old, these are in excellent condition. With just a little tender love and care, these two radios should be back in action and offer years of reliable service! I'd love to get them up and running, but with family, work, and community responsibilities I decided to get real: I have neither the time nor skills to bring these back to life.
$350 or best offer (plus shipping). US domestic only (sorry, I have never shipped to Canada or abroad, and I have no idea how I'd do it). If it helps you to know this, this money will help fund the family base station, so I can cajole my three boys into the world of amateur radio (the HT just isn't all that exciting to them, apparently).
