Sorry but the photo is not of me...it is of my niece Lucerito in Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu was built by the Incan civilization around 1450 AD. and was never discovered by the Spanish invaders. It was recently named one of the new seven wonders of the world and is Peru's number one tourist attraction.

I am semi-retired and spend about 70% of my time in Peru. I operate from 2 locations in Peru.

Lima FH17lv and Canete FH16tw,  Canete is my primary radio location 3km from  the coast and 140 km south of Lima.

both are in CQ ZONE 10 and ITU ZONE 12

On 160 meters I use a 45 ft T loaded vertical and run 1 kW. My site is in the middle of farms and is very quiet, but I have lots of propagated noise from storms over the nearby Andes and the Amazon Jungle. The bad QRN, QSB, and QRM usually makes it difficult to piece calls together.

On 6 meters a homebrew 8 el optimized yagi and up to 1kW. I have made several EME contacts with this system but am anxiously awaiting F2. I am hosting the OA4B 6 meter beacon in Lima. 50.036 13W  into a vertical dipole up 80 ft.  The beacon is on 24 hrs per day. Please spot the beacon when you hear it.  NOTE:  Canete is directly underneath the magnetic equator.  This makes it difficult for launchig into the TEP mode and  propagation  is completely different from the LU's, CE's and CX's where they enjoy frequent long haul TEP.

On HF I am running 100W into dipole antennas  (Soon a 3 ele stepIR will be perched on a 25m tower)

On 2 meters I am refurbishing a 40yr old 8877 amplifier and plan to build 1 or 2 long yagis for EME.  This project will be completed sometime in 2010.

If you QSL direct to N6XQ, the address is:  Jack Henry, Box 7732, San Diego, CA 92167   USA

I am a member of the Radio Club Peruano (RCP) and if you are ever in Peru we always welcome visitors.  The club has a repeater on 147.9  -600 with no PL,and is also an echo link repeater.  The club normally has informal get togethers every Wednesday evening.  See the club site for details (www.OA4O.org)

Thanks for the QSO and for taking the time to read the BIO.
