XE1GR Biography

Been Ham licensed since 1990, I'm a former Radio officer, graduated from the Maritime Institute of Quebec in Rimouski and sailing since 1991.

Beside my ham radio license I'm in possession of a GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) under the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) 1988 and International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In operation from my two separate stations, Maritime mobile on board Athem of the Seas (soon), and main station in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

My address in Germany posted here in QRZ will be valid only during the build of Anthem of the Seas, I will change it as soon as the vessel will be in operation.
My main address and main station are in Guadalajara, Mexico from where I’m in the air during my vacations.
My second location is Piedmont, Quebec in Canada.

Since 2003 I held the position of Electronics Engineer for Royal Caribbean International, now I'm part of the new build team for the world’s most advanced cruise vessel M/S Anthem of the Seas.
Anthem of the Seas will be the only cruise ship from Royal Caribbean International fleet equipped with a Ham radio station which the equipment and antennas belongs to me.
We will sail from Southampton, U.K. until south of Italy during the summer season then from Bayonne, N.J. around the Eastern and Western Caribbean Sea for the winter season.

I work 40, 20, 17, 15, 10 and 6 Meter bands, mostly on SSB and enjoying ESSB.

Some other hobbies: Scuba diving, motorcycles (BMW R1200GS Adventure), traveling, camping & photography now trying the new Nikon D800 36.3 mega pixels
