IOTA contest 2011
DX-PEDITION to ÎLE CHAUSEY EU-039
The expedition team of 2010
Info about ÎLE CHAUSEY GROUP
Îles Chausey is located alongside the coast of Normandie (F), just in front of GRANVILLE, about 9 miles (15 kms) from the mainland (Location: 48.85N - 48.92N / 1.7W - 1.88W). It is the largest archipelago of Europe, counting 365 islets (granite) at low water and 52 at high water - this is due to the impressive tidal sea level variation of up to 14m, the highest in Europe !
The largest island - ''Grande Île'' - is about 2 km long. The only connection to the continent is by boat, there are only a couple of tractors on the island, traveling is by walking, bicycle or horse. The climate is very mild due to presence of the Gulf stream, you find a lot of sub-tropical vegetation.
The island group is referenced under IOTA EU-039 and claimed by more than 50% of participants.
