hi, I am Stefano, HB9FPO, old man class 1970. I am on the air since 1984. QTH is Poschiavo, in the Italian part of Switzerland, in the South of Swiss Alps, where I run a small hotel. If you come and stay in my hotel, you will be welcome! The hotel is cheap as it serves mainly workers and tourists. Each room can be equipped with an Icom IC 7100. There is no extra fee for the radio, you just need a valid ham radio license to operate from the room. The hotel is equipped with several antenna (magnetic loops which can rotate, quads, dipoles and so on). I keep changing my antennas and my radios! The countryside here is beutiful, and there are plenty of mountains to climb (easy and hard) and to activate with the Summit on the Air program. Or you can take the red train (Rhaetische Bahn, Bernina Express) and operate portable in QRP on a simple walk high in the mountains (typically at 2000 meters above sea level). Or why not rent a boat and try to operate from the middle of Lake of Poschiavo?

73 and best of DX also from Serena and Angelica (4)!

I started first on the Citizen Band in 1984. In October 2002 I acquired the novice licence as HB3YGE. In May 2014 I upgraded to the technician license as HB9FPO, visiting the courses in Bellinzona of Gerry, HB9TQF. I am quite experienced in the VHF range, I help out with radios in the organization of events like Sky Race and Rally Stella Alpina, and I serve in the local voluntary fire brigade. I also had chance to help with radios during the catastrophic flood of 1987. With the local boy scout society, we go QRV during Jamboree on the Air. I used to operate an Echolink node, but currently I have a big interest in the D* (D-Star) system. Along with friend Tiz, HB9TVM, we are the only two hams in the valley.

So, if you have the chance, come and visit me at my hotel with ham radio facilities :-) The hotel webpage is at www.chalet-poschiavo.ch. To contact me use either hb9fpo at chalet-poschiavo.ch or hb9fpo at gmail.com
