The Indiana University Amateur Radio Club is made up of a dedicated group of IU students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as hams from the local community,  who are active in virtually every aspect of the hobby.

Our shack is located in the Indiana Memorial Union student activites tower, and our club station includes equimpent for HF and VHF operation.

We have two HF antennas and one VHF/UHF dual band vertical located on top of the Union building.   The antennas were changed/upgraded in 2017 due to roof work at the IMU building (see photo below).   We have recently replaced our aging multiband HF yagi, which dated back to the mid 1960's with a new Mosley Pro67B3 HF antenna covering 40/20/17/15/12/10 meter ham bands. We should have a long wire in the air soon to cover 80/160 meters too.      We operate several contests during the year including CQWW,  Sweepstakes and try to do a Field Day effort yearly despite many student hams gone for summer break.

The K9IU VHF analog repeater is now on 147.180 mHz (positive offset, PL 136.5) -  it is located on the Indiana University Memorial Stadium;  The repeater is a Yaesu Fusion DR1X at 25W with WaCom duplexer to a  Phelps Dodge 4-bay VHF commercial vertical providing approx 8dB of gain. All hams visiting or passing through the Bloomington area are nvited to use it.

The club is active in community service, often providing communication for local, state, and University events.

Club meetings are held on the last Sunday of the month, 7 PM in the Indiana Memorial Union Room 677 (ham shack) during school term (August - May).

We hold a weekly VHF net on the K9IU 147.18+ (136.5 ctcss) repeater on Monday evenings at 7PM.

Digital modes include:  K9IU  D-Star repeaters on VHF and UHF located at the Brisco dormitory.  The 7.18 repeater operates in analog and C4FM modes from the Memorial Stadium press box.  We also provide space and internet connectivity for the Hoosier DMR (brandmeister network) UHF repeater which is housed at the IMU shack.

New antennas:

Like many college ham club stations, we have seen membership decline in recent years but attempt to stay active and attract new hams and old hams alike.   We offer license testing periodically too.

To help keep our station alive, we appreciate donations of equipment and financial contributions from alumni.    Dues are $20/year.    We aim to continue being a service to students  who would otherwise not be able to have access to ham equipment and antennas, as well as to our community in times of need.   If you are interested in making a donation, please contact either of the trustees via qrz below.    Our wish list includes a bigger  antenna rotor and eventually an Icom or similar SDR based HF radio transceiver.

Once again, we invite all who may be interested to join us. If you would like more information about our club or its activities, please stop by the shack or drop us an email.    Our web address is:  https://www.indiana.edu/~k9iu/

Faculty License Trustee:  N9VKU (Good on QRZ).    Faculty Station Trustee:  K7JOE  (good on QRZ)
