A retired medic, I had to retire on poor health. 46 years of type 1 diabetes has left me waiting on a renal transplant. This has failed, sorry to say and I am now looking to commence home dialysis when we can get it all sorted out.

Now only 55 years old and was looking for something to occupy my brain. Was cleaning out the garage and discovered an old CB radio from the 1980s. Wired it up and it worked. Was looking to take "the test" and joined a local club, MC0YAD (www.MC0YAD.com or www.MC0YAD.net ) and am now one of the instructors there and have held the treasurer's post. Good bunch of boys who are always ready to help with antenna rigging parties and the like.

Just joined the Worked All Britain Group. and am awaiting my first book. The WAB square is SO21

Foundation (MW6GKS) in Sept 2009 then intermediate (2W0GKS) in late 2009. Living in a very pretty part on the country in the Brecon Beacons National Park but this places restrictions on the antenna I can use so no towers or permanent visually challenging anterae!!!!!

Rigs: I Have just acquired a FTdx 3000 so please forgive me if I sound not quite right as I am just getting used to it and setting it up correctly. Other rigs are FT897, FT8800, FT7900 and multiple small handhelds (5 at the last count). Most of these with the NES 10-2 noise cancelling external speaker. I find this to be well worth the money.

Antennas: Comet 422, Comet 250 and GP9 for VHF, UHF, with a long wire that will just about tune on top-band. Many thanks to GW0OAJ for his hard work putting in a ground plane system and putting up the random wire round the house.

Just purchased an Ameritron ALS 600 linear. Well impresed and so easy to use, just flick a switch and out goes 400 watts, no tuning neccesary with load and current etc. Does it all for you but you got to have a decent tuner to look after and protect the rig. All good fun!!!!!

Now getting into DStar, IC 5100, IC51 handheld, with ic2820 and 2x ec92 as spare tranceivers.

Interesting system especially useful for Raynet work and Ihave set up 2 nodes at my QTH. These are based on the extremely stable and reliable DV-MEGA / Arduino boards and runs through the FT 8800 for 2 m and the FT7900 for 70 cms.  So far they are working extremely well and have the callsigns

MB6AA and MB6IAA. (http://mc0yad.com/)

Was into motorbikes and had a bandit 600, Thundercat, SV1000 and VFR 800 abs but had to give this up because of poor health. Have toured all over Europe though with "the boys" and have visited many european countries this way.

Married with 24 years old daughter
