Below you will see the 2 - 23 inch HP screenwith 2- 21 inch monitors above used to run the Flex 6500
and support other logging and tracking programs such as Ham Radio Deluxe. Those have all been replaced with HP LV2311 23 inch monitors.
Below shows the HF section of the station. It is set up with 3 working positions. The center is were I work most of the time as I can operate the primary radios for HF, VHF and digital along with the computer screens. To the right is the HF and the left the VHF.
The VHF section as shown below is set up similar to our set up at the National Weather Service in Morristown. Being only a mile away from the weather service, this station can serve as support or even backup if necessary. We are also able to monitor local police, fire and other emergency commercial frequencies with the commercial radios in the shack. This was designed to support the local EOC in time of WX or other communication emergencies.
The lower level of the table houses the power supplies along with the three 27 amp batteries connected with the power supplies by Astron BB-30M Battery Backup Modules to maintain power if the commercial mains are lost. Only one battery can be seen as the other two are behind the power supplies. The small power supply powers the LED ribbon diode lights that are used on the table.
The lower level also houses the computer and the Flex 6500 unit as it does not require table top space. A dummy load and other items are stuck around down there also.
This next picture shows the LED lighting used on the upper table. It provides excellent down light and it is 12 volts DC! It is connected to also provide emergency lighting for operating without commercial power.
It is not finished, well no shack is ever finished, but I am still moving things around and changing positions. Once everything is in its place, I will work on the little details of fixing things nice, shortening cords and coax lines - just making things pretty, it operates great now.

Old Shack in recessed closet space. This is now beside the operating table and houses an extra computer, home camera system, repeater, computer server, printers, antenna switching, and shelving for all the radio and equipment manuals logbooks and support documents. Very handy.

A CONTACT BETWEEN TWO AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS ( many times referred to as Ham Radio operators or Hams) is called a QSO, using the Q code of communications. A hams QTH is his location or his home. The term QSL is similar to the commercial radio term "Roger" meaning "I confirm." Q codes were used in the beginning with ham radio when the mode of contacts was Morse code. Below the log is a map pinpointing over 500 locations all over the world that I have contacted and confirmed a QSO with another amateur radio station. Now over 100 different countries on six continents are represented by my contacts.
I picked a cool day to deliver the tower and begin the work on my summer project of raising the HDBX40 - 40 foot free standing tower.
At lest the sun was bright and the skys were clear.
My wife said I could put the tower in the center of the garage wall. Guess where the tree was that she wanted rid off, ok we start putting up the tower with that excellent tower tool, a chainsaw. New is a shovel to dig the stump out.
After several weeks yes weeks of digging on the stump, I hooked her Lexus 4WD SUV and pulled it out. Why did it take week, I had to have shoulder surgery and let it heal. Want to guess why I needed shoulder surgery?
You think with the stump out, the hole would be big enough! Only half!! Glad I could only use half my shoulder to dig and cut roots. Eventually, with every shovel of dirt handled by me, the hole hit bottom at 4 feet and 5 feet wide and 4.5 feet back. After framing up on the edges and brining that part higher, we used up the 2 yards of concrete.
With the steel support cage in place and wired together, and the anchor bolt held by the plywood, it time to call the concrete truck.
Harold, the contract truck driver knew my Dad, he backed up perfectly to the hole and filled it up after watering down the mix.
The tower is in place and the antennas are beginning to show up. Connected to the green line and above this picture is the A3S with the 40 meter add on. A new Hygain V-2s is on the way. Yes it is a V2s made by Hygain, not MFJ.. It is 25 years old and still in it s box, never removed. A 148 - T20 rest on the bench to give me 10 elements both vertical and horizanial
So tonight, August 30 I pulled coax lines to get them in place. The 60 foot Bucket lift comes tomorrow afternoon for the weekend. I get to use it to put up my tower, once the upstairs windows are washed. The antenna is planned to be raised on Saturday, just in time for Labor Day.....More pictures as we work thru the weekend.
