Michael J. Molloy
Naperville, Illinois USA
For me it all started about 30 years ago on 11 meters. I hooked up with a local group of guys that used to hang out on the lower side of 27.385. They weren't your typical CBer's and really took radio communications serious. I was so excited to be a part of such a great group of guys that were helpful, enjoyable to be around and never had a lack of topics to discuss. But as all good things must come to an end so did this. CB's grew in popularity, more and more people were using them and it just got out of hand and very unenjoyable.
I started studying for my Novice License and was doing pretty well till the priorities had to change and I was not able to complete getting licensed. At that time all we had to communicate with was Phone, CW and RTTY was just starting to make it's presence as a viable option of communication.
Fast forward to 2013. I'm a Technical Director at a theatre and a friend comes in and wants to volunteer in the Technical Booth helping with Audio, Video and Lighting. Mike KG9KR indicated he was a Ham which stirred up old thoughts of getting licensed. I met with him and he informed me of all the changes that I had no clue about in our field. I was hooked again and started to study my *ss off for the test. I was in a hurry as I had a very small window of opportunity to get it done. So I studied for two weeks and took my Technician Class Test, Passed, decided to go for my General Class Test, Passed. I have since passed my Extra Class Examination on on June 9, 2014.
I am know a member of Wheaton Community Radio Amateurs, Dupage Amateur Radio Club located here in DuPage County, Illinois about 30 miles west of Chicago, Illinois. I have found a home with a great group just as I had 30 years ago. I look forward to helping new people get interested in our hobby and enjoying all that Amateur Radio has to offer. I am usually either at home or in my car operating on our DARC Club Repeater at 145.430 MHz with a PL Tone of 107.2 or the Wheaton Repeater at 145.310 with a PL Tone of 107.2. So if your passing through the Chicago area give me a shout and say hello. You will also find monitoring REF051 C on D-Star.
I am also a member of the Medinah Shrine Amature Radio Unit where we are building a world class radio station. Check back often as updates will be posted here on our progress.
I am the Illinois State Director for Air Force MARS where we are continuing the growth of our membership. So if you have ever been interested in MARS let me know, I would love to talk to you about all that is going on.
When not operating my radio you can find me very active in the Masonic Fraternity. I am a member of Euclid Lodge No. 65, Past Master of Kelvyn Park-Willing Lodge No. 1075, 33rd Degree with the Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago and a member of Medinah Shriners in Addison, Illinois as well as a number of other Masonic bodies and orginizations.

This is a picture of my operating position in the Radio Shack.
This shows the homebrew dipole I made and hung from the roof of my garage.
It is cut for 20M, 15M and 6M and hangs about 6 inches from the ceiling about 8 feet of the ground.
