QTH - Tauranga (refer map below for location)

First licensed in 1989.

My previous callsign was ZL1TNC (Limited Licence) which I held for three years. Then I sat my 12 WPM Morse test to gain access to the HF Bands and changed my callsign to ZL1KRH.

No previous holder of ZL1KRH.

My radio shack is very modest these days, as I don't do any serious DXing anymore. I live in a built up area here in Tauranga city where I have to consider the neighbours as to what antenna's I erect.

My interests are with most modes but keen on 10 and 40 meter, particularly Pacific Islands and Australia. I work around 28.490 on 10M, 7.095 on 40M. I also enjoy D-Star and have a portable Hotspot set-up which I use mainly while away in our Campervan.

Please don't send me QSL's as I do not collect or send cards anymore.

Main equipment:

  • Kenwood TS-480SAT - Base radio into a G5RV antenna and AR-10.
  • Kenwood TS-180S - Base radio into a wire Dipole antenna.
  • Yaesu FT-8800 - Base radio into a 2m/70cm colinear.
  • Yaesu FT-8800 - Mobile (car) radio into a Diamond SG7900.
  • Icom ID-880H - Base radio into 2m/70cm colinear antenna for D-Star.
  • Icom ID-51A Plus.
  • Raspberry Pi 2 / DVAP Hotspot.
  • Yaesu FT-211RH - Base radio into 5/8 antenna.
  • Yaesu VX-5 - Handheld portable.
  • Icom 24AT now retired to Packet/APRS use into a 2m/70cm colinear antenna.
  • Various other transceivers and receivers.

When I break through a large pileup time and time again and get a good report, I have a little giggle to myself - you can have fun with very basic equipment, 100 watts and a wire ! smiley

Most call me Hamy, a nick name from my school days (a abbreviation of Hampshire).

I'm a retired Maintenance Supervisor for an AgeCare facility which is a Retirement Village and Hospital (18 years). Previous jobs – Joiner/Cabinet maker (19 years), Furniture/Flooring salesperson (12 years). Volunteer Ambulance Officer (20 years).
