As a kid, my interest in radio was started by my dad who was a volunteer radar tech in the MAAF (Malayan Auxiliary Air Force) in Tengah Air Base. That was when Singapore was a British Colony.
I recall building my first crystal set. The antenna was a piece of electrical wire strung from one end of the roof to the other. This crystal set was soon upgraded to an amplifed version using OC44 (RF) and OC71(AF) germanium transistors.
It is said that you never forget your first love. I never forgot my first radio set.
For the next 40 years of my life, I did not have anything to do with RF. My career work was (and is)mainly analog electronics - audio electronics.
Now I finally found a little time to think about my "first love". I just obtained my General Class licence in Nov 2009, and I am busy re-educating myself on all things RF: Antennas, transmission lines, receivers etc. I did post-grad research in optical fiber digital transmission.
My hobbies include collecting Test and Measurement Instruments (dead or alive).
