Ham Member Lookups: 1911

I am retired and spend little time in South Dakota. Most of my time is spent in the upper mid-west United States in a 16 foot Scamp Deluxe RV or my late parents’ double wide trailer in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. You may QSL VIA license address or 3605 Co. Hwy N, Colfax, WI 54730 (EN44ew). I will QSL but it may be delayed as I do not always pick up my mail every week.

My introduction to ham radio was in 1962 in a one room country school in rural Wisconsin. Our teacher, K9ZVZ (Dave), set up a Collins KWM-2 in the class room and ran a dipole from the school out to a tree and a piece of playground equipment. We made many contacts from that one room school, but the most memorable was the space center at Cape Canaveral.

I first tested for the novice license but a rules change resulted in my declining that license. I was then licensed on 03 JAN 1977 at the technician level as WD9AGJ and spent the next several years upgrading to advanced level as KE9CS, code was always a struggle and I could not get much beyond the 13 WPM speed. The only reason I am an extra now is the fact that the 20 WPM CW requirement was dropped.

I've spent much of my life as a television broadcast technician at a state network in the upper mid-west and have always enjoyed working with RF transmitters and antennas. I have been given the opportunity to far exceed any of the goals that I had when I started to study electronics and to see things that I never dreamed of.

I enjoy Sky warn involvement (Chippewa C6), fox hunts, experimenting with antennas, ham fests, and Metal detecting. When I am on the road, if the weather is good, I’m out with the metal detectors, if it is raining I’m in the RV playing radio.
