Currently my main interests are digital modes, primarily PSK31 and portable operation.

My station consists of-

  • Rig 1: Ten Tec Omni VII (588 AT)
  • Rig 2: Yaesu FT-817nd
  • Tuner: LDG Z-817
  • Interface: Signalink USB (for the Yaesu, I use the Ten Tec USB interfaces for the Omni VII)
  • Antenna 1: OCF Dipole for 40/30/20/10 meters for my home shack (with a tuner it also works on 17, 15 and 12 meters)
  • Antenna 2: LNR Precision End Fed 10/20/40 MkII for portable use
  • Antenna 3: Buddistick for portable use
  • Several home built antennas primarily for portable QRP

The Ten Tec Omni VII is a nice machine, I really like the receiver in this radio.  The screen is pretty nice as well.  I added the narrow CW filter which is equally good for low bandwidth digital modes like PSK31.  I only hope Ten Tec can pull through!

The Yaesu station including an MFJ-872 SWR/Watt Meter, power supply, gel-cell battery and various cables and cords fits in an old high-explosives box I modified with some interior dividers and drawers making it at least semi-portable. The gel-cell is a 7aH unit for portable operation and gives the FT-817nd much longer run time and the ability to output its full 5 watts.  I've also got a bag that holds everything but the power supply and MFJ meter.  Most of the portable stuff also fits in a multi-compartment bag to make it really portable.

I QSL 100% to cards received via eQSL (AG),LoTW or direct (no SASE required).I prefer QSLs through the same (both eQSL and LoTW if possible but either alone is fine). I do enjoy receiving QSL cards so paper sent direct (or through the bureau) is appreciated (and of course will be reciprocated).

My "Semi-portable" Station
