I'm 60 years old and work as a full time RF Engineer. I enjoy operating AM on TEN METERS 29.0 - 29.2 MHz, and 20 Meters on 14.286 MHz, when the sunspot cycle is cooking. Sun spot cycle 24 has is producing some spots and fun contacts on TEN & 20M AM, and 40 Meters AM around 7.290 MHz are fun.

Been playin with the Flex Radio SDR-1000, it is Digital DSP Audio, set-up to run on a dualcore DELL G620 Laptop computer. The receiver is awesome.Transmit on any mode (especially AM) is awesome.

The Home Brew 1KW 4-1000 AM rig is as "HIFI" as I can get it with the Modulation Transformers, with the following audio chain:

Starts with a Studio-Projects 1" gold sputtered diaphram condenser microphone driving a Behringer Ultravoice Pro VX2000 preamp processor. This drives an equalizer and a Behringer 9024 Six-Band Compressor/Limiter. This output drives either the Flex Radio, or is the input to a Dynaco stereo 120 power amp for the 304TL's Grids through a "backwards connected" tube transformer (600V p-p volts!). The Final 4-1000a also has the 3-Diode negative loading circuit to keep negative peaks at -95% modulation, and protects the 600 Watt Modulation Transformer configured with "modified Heising" coupling to the 4X1. It's the Rack on the left. At >1000 Lbs, it's a Titanic boat anchor! Old Technology... but lots of fun!

Note: A new high level plate modulator and power supply is finished to eliminate the modulation and interstage transformers. It uses a single 4-1000A tube using pulse duration modulation sampled at 110KHz at 8-10KV to obtain digital audio to the plate of the class-C 4-1000A. It should be in the transmitter rack by end of 2014. This would have replaced the 304TLs by now, but I got side tracked with the Flex Radio SDR-1000. Amazing software radio, but getting back to and completing the PDM modulator... its now hot on my list to finish this.

My antenna shown above, is a unique designed Quad on a crank-up tower. On TEN meters, it's a 4-Element "triple" polarity for Horizontal, Vertical AND CIRCULAR polarizations. The 21 foot 3" Dia. boom also has Three Elements on 15 and 20 meters, with only Horizontal feeds on those bands. If you want info on how to DUAL-FEED a single quad loop with > 20 db of vertical to horizontal isolation, with circular polarized capability and easy matching, E-mail me. Playing with a quad is lots of fun.

I also use a "cloud-burner" for 75M and 40M fed with ladder line using a link coupled tuner.

If you have moment, click/paste this link and the "see more of the station" for the antenna installation process: http://www.amwindow.org/pix/htm/ab2kc/ab2kc1.htm

Here is the writup on the dual polarity quad loop: http://www.amwindow.org/tech/htm/dualfploop.htm

Also, please visit "THE AM FORUM" website at: http://amfone.net/phpBB2/ for lots of AM operation and information, and the "AM Window" at http://www.amwindow.org/ On a side note: Republicans argue that the stimulus program has not worked as a job producer and was a waste of tax money. I TOTALLY agree. Vote them Democrat Liberals out in 2016!!! VOTE TRUMP!!! My Cat is an Obama Democrat... He puts nothing good on the table and waits for me to open the cans. The difference is... I like my cat.
