Hello my friends, my name is Jerry Darnell, I am the Industrial Arts Instructor for blind and newly blinded adults at the Louisiana Center for the Blind here in Ruston. I am also the President of The Piney Hills Amateur Radio Association, the EC for Lincoln Parish, member ofthe local VE team, ARES, SKYWARN, SOUTHBEARS, ARRL,call the local 2 meter Emergency Monday Night Net, and in my free time that is left, I own a ham radio antenna business, Palmetto Antennas, LLC. My web site is www.palmettoantennas.com .And I love to go to hamfests and meeting fellow hams from all over the country, especially the senior hams. They can really tell you how to do it!!!

Ham radio and teaching ham radio has become a major part of my life. I really enjoy it. I have over 80 of my blind students through the years licensed from Tech to Amateur Extra. I teach my students that Ham Radio is a great way to get involved in their local communities and “to give back”.

My station consist of a 800 foot loop antenna (#12 THHN stranded copper wire)approximately 50 ft up, fed by ladder line, tuned by a Palstar automatic AT-1500 tuner, and my transceiver is a Kenwood TS-850SATwith a  Icom IC-706MKII backup. I have various 2 meter/440 vertical antennas and radios. My favorite ht is a Yaesu FT-51R. I also from time to time, enjoy HF mobile-in’ with an ICOM 706MKII, AH-4 tuner, AH-1 whip and at times a HS-1500 screwdriver antenna.

I am very-very happily married to Kaye Lane KD5YZA.
