First licensed as a Novice in July 1991 shortly after finishing my junior year of high school at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. I would like to thank my elmer Vernon Dameron K1DRN/SK (later K7DRN/SK) (who was also my high school history teacher) for helping me train on CW week after week for months after school helping me to earn my Novice ticket. ARRL member since October 1991.

I'm a U.S. Air Force Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS) radio operator having started with MARS in 1993.  I was the Arizona State MARS Director serving between January 2013 to December 2014. I'm also member of the U.S. Air Force Communications and Air Traffic Controllers Association (AFCOMMATC).

I'm a member of the Arizona Department of Public Safety (State Police) Amateur Radio Group - K7DPS. I've been with the agency since February 2001.  Membership in this club is closed to employees of the agency only. Please look up K7DPS for club operations.

Member of the Arizona Outlaws Contest Club.  I'm a intermittent/part-time contestor; catching only a few contests per year. My preferred contest logging program is N1MM+ with FLDIGI interface for digital.

I volunteer for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary as a radio operator.  I'm currently serving as the communications staff officer for Division 10, Arizona and for Flotilla 114-10-08.  I provide HF and VHF radio services.

Station Information

HF: Primary is a Kenwood TS-590S. Secondary are an Icom 718, Icom 706MkIIG, and Icom 735. (I bought the 735 new when I got my Novice ticket in 1991).

Amplifiers: Heathkit SB-200 and Henry 2KD-5.

VHF & UHF: Yaesu FT-1900, Wouxun KG-UV6D, IC-2GAT, IC-2720h, IC-F5021.

Receiver: Icom R7000 VHF/UHF.

Tuners: LDG AT-1000Pro autotuner, a Dentron MT-3000A and a few MFJ manual mobile tuners.

Antennas: Butternut HF9V vertical 6m-80m, Mosely TA-33jr 10/15/20m beam at 30 feet, and a G5RV dipole at 30 feet. All fed with LMR-400 coax. For VHF I'm using a three and five element 2m/70cm beams, a discone, the 6m segment of the HF9V, and a 6m Moxon as well as a 2m Ringo Ranger.

For digital I'm using a Rigblaster Plug and Play with FLDIGI and a Windows 7 PC.
