Ham Member Lookups: 2024

I became interested in ham radio in 2012 -- some years after a colleague kept telling me about his interesting ham activities. In 2013, the value of ham radio hit me like a rock when I saw the positive communication and technical exploration benefits locally and around the world. Starting into ham radio fits my background in electronics, computers, communications and automation.

I am excited about the many ways to explore new horizons that includes talking and learning from hams on the nets and also contributing too  My attended the Dayton Hamvention in 2015 for the first time (I highly recommend attending) and have attended in 2017 in Xenia, OH.  I am interested in emergency communications, public service events, antennas, networks, satellites, digital modes and much more.  I was a world traveler for nearly 20 years on business and on vacations which really makes talking to hams around the world very interesting.

I currently use a Kenwood HT, Leixen VHF/UHF backpack mobile radio, software defined radios (SDR) for HF and a CS Systems digital mobile radio (DMR).  It's been different and rewarding writing my own DMR code plugs for Talk Groups on the local repeaters and on the out-of-town repeaters where I travel so I don't need the computer for programming when I travel.  I am looking forward to acquiring a combined DMR and DSTAR HT transceiver.  I recently completed building a DMR hotspot kit. It is working fine. This is an exciting time to be in ham radio.
