Ham Member Lookups: 987

I enjoyed a former career as a USAF pilot and corporate pilot. I am now retired and enjoying my family and hobbies. I only recently joined the ranks of amateur operators after having an "arms length" interest in ham radios for much of my life. "Mic fright" is not an issue with me, after talking on aircraft radios for over 25 years.

I have been helping to teach Technician classes for several years, and have managed to help my wife get her General ticket and my 11 year old grand-daughter get her Technician license. Ham radio has become a family affair, and we are regulars at DARA and our local ham club meetings.

I amĀ  still new enough to ham radio that I haven't settled on a particular mode, band, or aspect of ham radio as a favorite. So far, it seems that teaching, learning, and assembling a station bring the most enjoyment. I love a DX contact, but not particularly obsessed with getting them. I think this winter's projects will include simple "kit-building" so that the wife and grandchild can learn soldering skills. I know my wife can get better than I, because of all the stitching and craft work she does. My eyes and steadiness are not what they used to be.
