Ham Member Lookups: 2121

I've had my ham ticket since Fall of '87.

After essentially being inactive from 2005-2011, I've recently gotten re-interested in the hobby.

Interests are: D-STAR, HF mobile, 2m SSB, portable/QRP operating, and SOTA.

Here is my typical SOTA setup, with Alexloop Walkham on a tripod (for 40m-10m), and Electraft KX3. I normally use internal-batteries (8 -NiMH AAs) and carry a spare set just in case. The radio can generate 5W on internal batteries. So far, my longest operating time has been 4.5 hours, and I've yet to deplete a fully-charged set of batteries whilst on a SOTA! This is on top of Mt. Bennett (W0C-FR087), an activation I did on 7-20-14. Everything fits comfortably in a day-pack. Deployment setup takes less than 5 minutes. It turns out that a rag makes a great tripod "rotor brake."

This is my mobile setup, all using remote-heads. The top-radio is an Icom ID-880H for 2m/70cm FM and DSTAR. Directly below it is the FT-857D which I use for mobile HF and occasionally 2m SSB, then lower, towards the center above the console is an RH-96 control head for a BCD996XT scanner.

Mobile antennae shown here, this time with 2m halo visible:
