In Spring 2014, I started getting back to interests I had as a youth - one of which was radio.  Occasional chats 2M / 70cm repeaters from the mobile, but usually the 2M Call freq, enjoy simplex 146.520 distance contacts from bridge and hill tops while driving.  HT portable use, 2M, 1.25cm, and 70cm.  Base HF SSB, and PSK31.

I log most 2M simplex contacts I can remember after driving.

Typical Digital Modes on HF with WSJT-X include: FT-8, JT-65, PSK31

My Equiptment:

  • Kenwood TS-590S - HF 160-6M
  • Ameritron ALS-606
  • Palstar AT2K
  • Kenwood TM-V71A - Mobile Dual Band
  • D-Star: ICOM ID-51A & ID-5100A Mobile Dual Band
  • HTs include Icom ID-51A, Yaesu FT-60R, Baofengs 5RA, 82, 82X
  • DMR Tytera MD-380 

Antennas include a G5RV, MFJ Big Ear, 20M vertical wire, Comet GP-3 Base Station, Comet SBB-5 mobile, N9TAX Slim Jim Dual Band, and a homemade 70cm Yagi.

Middle Left = For 11 Meters: Cobra 148GTL CB, into the G5RV.

Center: Dell Vostro 1500 - Core 2 Duo, Running FreeDV and PSK31 connected to the Kenwood 590s
Right: = Turner Super Sidekick and External Speaker connected to the 2M Baofeng

My brother in-law's cool basement bar; LED color changing, custom built, with remote.

Westport CT - Bird shot needs some explaining.  The picture below taken from inside, shooting through living room window toward a bird feeder, and was an accidental one off test picture!  March 2017 Snow on the background.  The Orange in the plant and hint of orange under the bird wing was caused by the window catching a reflection of a bright orange table inside the room.  The bird was landing on the feeder.
