Active from the Baycaner Beach Resort at Pirate's Well on Mayaguana Island (IOTA NA-113) in the far south-eastern Bahamas Out-Islands (Grid FL32kk) on 6 meters CW & SSB from June 22 to July 6, 2015 using the same 6m set-up as at TF/VE3IKV (100W + 8-el M2 6M8GJ 50 MHz yagi on a 43 foot boom). QSL direct via VE3IKV - 2 green stamps for USA and 3 green stamps for international - tnx.  On June 30th 2015, we had the first ever recorded 50 MHz contact between C6 Bahamas and JW7 Svalbard Island (only 1,300 km/800 miles from the North Pole!).   Svalbard is the northernmost settlement in the world with a permanent civilian population. Peter, JW7QIA was in for two solid hours on CW, between 1610 and 1820 UTC, and not another signal on the band. The distance from Peter's grid square location way up in JQ68 down to FL32 in Mayaguana is 7,482km - great summer solstice multi-hop sporadic-E layer propagation conditions on the "magic band"! An interesting video on Svalbard can be seen here  https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=5NhIRwCq428

Mayaguana Island is one of the most beautiful of the Bahamas "Out-Islands" - pristine turquoise water, beautiful sandy beaches filled with conch shells, and a near-constant trade wind that keeps you cool regardless of the temperature outside.  We stayed at Earnell "Shorty" Brown's Baycaner Beach Resort which he had constructed right at the beach near the settlement of Pirate's Well - and yes, there really is a fresh-water pirate well down the road.  Mayaguana is a very close-knit, small community, and you will immediately be warmly welcomed as part of the extended island family upon arrival. The bonefish are abundant on the wide salt-water flats, as are the flocks of wild flamingos.  I may not want to come back home!

UPDATE:  DUE  TO HEALTH ISSUES FOR BOTH PETE AND BILL, THE JUNE 2016  RETURN TRIP HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Conditions were not as good as normal for the 2015 transatlantic 6 meter sporadic-E season, but we did manage to contact 875 stations in 23 DXCC countries. Over 95% of the contacts were made using CW mode - awesome to hear all that CW activity on 6 meters.
