Welcome everyone around the world here at DK2EA, JO50UF.

In 1961/1962 I took my first steps into the scene of amateur radio. While radio-tinkering by random I heard some radio-amateurs on the 80m-band in AM-mode for the first time. Solely from self-study and books I aquired the knowledge which is important to get an amateur radio license. At least I got my Call DK2EA in May 1967 at the age of 22 during 18-months military-service at German "Bundeswehr" as a PFC.

Equipment of 1st hour was a homebrew 2m-converter with legendary 417A, behind Hammarlund HQ129X and a homebrew 2m-TX 30 watts AM/CW. Because I was living in a building with 9 housing units I was only able to insert a rod with 2 x 4Ele Yagi through the skylight of my shack at the attic outside of the roof and back from there when QRT. That way I gained first experience on VHF.

In spring 1970 a friend of mine, sk DC6SI, and me built up a selfconstructed 30m-tower upon a hill not far from our hometown at 728m asl. The first aerial has been 4x 10Ele Yagi for 2m, later on followed by a 20Ele-collinear, 2x 14Ele Parabeam and the last ones were 2x 17Ele F9FT. We had great success and did QSOs up to 2000km via tropo to SM2 or very far into Russia and Ukraine. Due to personell circumstances we closed this project in 1986.

In autumn 1970 my parents and me took the chance of getting a house of our own at fairly good location on the southside of a hilltop. There is where I still live. The new situation allowed me to upgrade rig and antennas at will. But my favourite field still was VHF, HF only in between with a FB33 for 20/15/10m. Of most interest were the sporadic-E-openings. When in spring 1990 a limited number of DL´s got license for 6m, I was one of the first. 1990-1993 have been years of outstanding good propagation via F2&TEP on 6m and so with my small X-verter of 15watts into a 3-Ele-TV-yagi for channel two I was able to work all continents. Similar good propagation followed in 2000-2003. Nowadays hard to believe - but it´s true! During these >25 years operating on the "magic band" I reached 216 DXCC-units and 1036 grid-squares. But folks I have to tell you it's often been a hard job...

I´m QRV 80m to 23cm, CW/SSB/FM - but Digi are not my style. Hopeful looking forward to get 4m-license also in 2018.

73, Wolfgang (Wolf) DK2EA, also OP at DL0HEL & DF0HF

My daughter Violet, DH1NVM,  is QRV from here, too, while she's at home.

PS: I do not send QSL-cards automatically. If you want my card, pse tell it me during QSO or send me yours with explicit remark "pse QSL". When still missing QSL from myself or DL0HEL: pse drop me an e-mail including QSO-data.
