Just finished all the required physicals (Coast Guard/MSC/Company), drug test, training and seemingly endless amounts of paperwork to renew US Coast Guard Radio Officer license.  I'm on the 7th issue..... Amazing, 2017 and still issuing !  and FCC RadioTelegraph too, which is now valid for life :-)

I want to thank everyone for making my visit to Dayton Hamvention a wonderful experience (even with the bad wx and traffic)

160m is my favorite band. Its a challenge, other bands are too easy. There is qrn, pile ups, searching, qsb, weak signals. Antennas are large and they are never good enough, you always want better. Most users of the band are good and serious cw ops.  Rare to hear SSB pirates or Radar. 80m is jammed with radar and low end of 40 has been ruined by SSB pirates from a neighboring country to the south. and 6m ? just listen to 50.110 and wait for an opening...  ZZZzzzz
