The call EI88WAW is associated with the county of Kerry, bordered to the north by Co Limerick and to the east by Co Cork.  The Skellig Islands, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lie about 12km of the southwest coast of Co Kerry.  Stone beehive huts at Skellig Michael's summit provide evidence of monastic settlements dating back to the 6th century.  The Islands were featured in the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)  The Skelligs witnessed the laying of the first Trans-Atlantic communications cable to Valentia Island and onwards across the Atlantic to Hearts Content in Newfoundland, completed in 1866.  In March 1919 Marconi engineers H. J. Round and W. T. Ditcham made the first east-west Trans-Atlantic voice broadcast, using valve technology, from Ballybunion in Co Kerry, using the callsign YXQ.
