Have you nothing better to do than read my bio? Oh well, go ahead if you must......
I was born at an early age and subsequently became a grouchy old age pensioner. I frittered away my early years on white water kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering and trying to get lost in the mist. (Anything for a bit of variety.) Along the way I spent around 20 years in mountain rescue, became licenced as G1LLE, taught myself morse and morphed into G0BVZ, at which point I fell under the spell of QRP cw.
I still enjoy QRP cw but, looking back, I can't imagine why I contested and chased awards. My main interest now lies in what the other op has to say. Not content with communicating by just bashing two pieces of metal together, I've recently discovered the benefits of DV modes on VHF and UHF. The main benefit is intelligibility -the three main DV modes are far superior to vanilla FM to me, speaking as a fairly deaf guy. Until the signal drops out, there is very much less background noise -then the signal falls off a cliff with no noisy tail off.
I did give hf digi modes a whirl but it was kinda same-o, same-o after a week or so of watching text scrolling across the screen, so I'll wait until I'm totally deaf before trying it again.
So there you have it: my bio. Not much of a life, but all my own. Maybe I'll bump into you on the bands sometime, who knows? Stranger things have happened.
73 de Vic, G0BVZ (es grmma ar do foighne -to those in the know!!)
